Making Medicinal Tinctures

This is another way that you can preserve and use medicinal herbs that you grow, forage or purchase. Like the making of vinegars, tinctures take time to make (6+ weeks), but the the bulk of the work is easy and over very quickly and it is a time honoured way to extract active botanicals from plants.

The alcohol is expensive and I prefer using salts for preserving tasty edible herbs and then using these salts instead of plain cooking salt. My second choice for ingesting and using herbs is vinegars, then teas or infusions and then tinctures.
